ZIA targets growth in new phase of development

October 2020

Launched eight years ago, the Zircon Industry Association (ZIA) has seen considerable success in recent years. In order to build on that success, the ZIA Board conducted a benchmarking exercise to ensure that the association is best placed to deliver sustainable growth and development, while continuing to provide value and support to its worldwide membership.

The resulting Board review will lead to a number of changes for the association that will allow it to better represent its members, respond faster to emerging issues, and continue to drive awareness of zircon and its derivatives.

Going forward, the ZIA’s Board will widen its representation to reflect its membership geography, including Asia and those developing markets where ZIA has members. This will enable the association to respond effectively to local challenges and continue to grow and retain its membership. Further, to reflect the growing diversity within the industry, ZIA aims to have female directors accounting for at least 25% of its board.

ZIA is keen to drive performance to deliver results for members. An annual evaluation of the Board, including a personal reflection of directors’ contributions and participation, will help to ensure the association’s leadership continues to move forward, and provide value for members.

The ZIA‘s annual conference has become a key event in the industry’s calendar. The combination of high-quality presentations delivered by industry experts and academics on a wide variety of relevant topics, coupled with a technical site visit and the opportunity to network with colleagues and industry peers, has made the ZIA conference the ‘heartbeat of the industry’. ZIA is keen to ensure the continued success of the conference and will offer incentives for those that book early and for multiple delegates from the same company. Additional incentives will also be offered to those ZIA members who participate in the conference.

The ZIA’s committees lay at the heart of the association as they are key to identifying and driving forward important work streams:

ZIA Chairman, Jean-Michel Fourcade, commented:

“ZIA is now in a strong position and we want to ensure that our industry association continues to operate effectively whilst delivering continuous benefits to members. The changes we are making will enable us to build on that successful, begin to drive strong growth and deliver continuing results for our members”.

ZIA’s Executive Director, Keven Harlow, added, “ZIA is run by its members for its members, and has grown from strength-to-strength in recent years through the support of its members. These changes will enable us to cement the role of ZIA as the voice that represents the zircon industry worldwide.”

Notes to editors

ZIA’s Annual General Meeting of the Assembly will take place virtually this year on Monday 23rd November at 13.00 (CET). Further details will be given to members in due course.

The Zircon Industry Association (ZIA) is an independent industry association. Its mission is to represent and support the interests of the zircon, zirconia and zirconium value chains, from zircon sand production, to a wide range of downstream products including zircon flour, opacifiers, refractory materials, friction materials, fused zirconia and zirconium chemicals, metal and alloys. Its members currently represent some 80% of the globally-produced zircon tonnage.

ZIA has a strict Code of Conduct and Antitrust policy which is announced before the start of all meetings and events, and which delegates are required to observe.
